How Can This Be?

Those of you wishing that I would shut up about tennis and the Chuckster are in for a disappointment. She just finished demolishing Sharapova 6-3, 6-1 in just over an hour. Maria's one-dimensional game was owned by the Chuckster as she took the ball early on Maria's serve and keeping her guessing. That, along with a variety of drops, spins, angles flustered the young Russian.
It's too early to tell if she can win a grand slam this year, but small tournaments like Tokyo will be ripe for the picking. She'll have to prove herself against the likes of H-Squared and Mauresmo but with the WTA these days it may just be a matter of staying healthy. Obviously, it wouldn't be a Chuckster match without a juicy quote as during an interview with an Australian newspaper the Chuckster described Sharapova as "a rather ordinary player." And, honestly, until Maria finds some variation on her game she will be. A big huzzah tonight for the Chuckster!
