Just So That Nobody Forgets

The last four episodes of Arrested Development air tonight on FOX from 7 - 9 CST. Season 3 hasn't been as good as Seasons 1 or 2 but those who have screened the last episodes say loose ends get tied up and hilarity ensues. Why do shows like this get canceled while other vapid messes continue on for years? Oh, that's right. Alia reminds us that continuity is something not to be respected these days.

Can We Please Have a 24 Hour Ban on Ignorance?

As Buddhists we're taught to thay nhu that and nghe nhu that. That is, use only our seeing and hearing natures to observe the world. One should listen without egoic judgements and stop the egoic mind from chattering on too much. Or, as that old dog T.S. Eliot said

I said to my soul, be still, and let the dark come upon you
Which shall be the darkness of God.
and continues
I said to my soul, be still, and wait without hope
For hope would be hope for the wrong thing; wait without love
For love would be love of the wrong thing; there is yet faith
But the faith and the love and the hope are all in the waiting.
Wait without thought, for you are not ready for thought:
So the darkness shall be the light, and the stillness the dancing.

Unfortunately, with my love of sushi and ill tidings such as this and this it will be many a kalpa before I get anywhere near thay nhu that. Argh. Why come people so stupid? Oh, that's right. We're still in the fourth age of our current kalpa and Dharma is hobbling on one foot. Damn, I always forget about that:

Three hundred and sixty-five human years make one year of the Devas and the pitrs, the Gods and the ancestors.

Four are the ages in the land of Bharata: the krita, treta, dwapara and kali. The krita yuga lasts for 4800 divine years, the treta for 3600, the dwapara for 2400 and the kali for 1200; and, then, another krita begins.

The krita or satya yuga is an age of purity; it is sinless. Dharma, righteousness, is perfect and walks on four feet in the krita. However, from the treta yuga, adharma, evil, comes to the world and the very fabric of time begins to decay. Finally, the kali yuga, the fourth age, is almost entirely corrupt, with dharma barely surviving, hobbling on one foot.

A chaturyuga, a cycle of four ages, is 12,000 divine years or 365 x 12,000 human years long. Seventy-one chaturyugas make a manvantara; fourteen manvantaras, a kalpa. A kalpa of a thousand chaturyugas, 12 million divine years, is one day of Brahma, the Creator.

8,000 Brahma years make one Brahma yuga; 1,000 Brahma yugas make a savana and Brahma's life is 3,003 savanas long. One day of Mahavishnu is the lifetime of Brahma ...

Damn you, Dharma! Stop hobbling on one foot! Can't we get Dharma a nice cane or something? Oh, well, at least we'll soon have this.
                                   You say I am repeating
Something I have said before. I shall say it again.
Shall I say it again? In order to arrive there,
To arrive where you are, to get from where you are not,
You must go by a way wherein there is no ecstasy.
In order to arrive at what you do not know
You must go by a way which is the way of ignorance.
In order to possess what you do not possess
You must go by the way of dispossession.
In order to arrive at what you are not
You must go through the way in which you are not.
And what you do not know is the only thing you know
And what you own is what you do not own
And where you are is where you are not.

Brokeback

In light of the new usage of brokeback as an adjective, this is hilarious. Hat tip to the Hotline's Blogometer.

How Can This Be?

Those of you wishing that I would shut up about tennis and the Chuckster are in for a disappointment. She just finished demolishing Sharapova 6-3, 6-1 in just over an hour. Maria's one-dimensional game was owned by the Chuckster as she took the ball early on Maria's serve and keeping her guessing. That, along with a variety of drops, spins, angles flustered the young Russian.

It's too early to tell if she can win a grand slam this year, but small tournaments like Tokyo will be ripe for the picking. She'll have to prove herself against the likes of H-Squared and Mauresmo but with the WTA these days it may just be a matter of staying healthy. Obviously, it wouldn't be a Chuckster match without a juicy quote as during an interview with an Australian newspaper the Chuckster described Sharapova as "a rather ordinary player." And, honestly, until Maria finds some variation on her game she will be. A big huzzah tonight for the Chuckster!

Wasians Are So Cute

Case in point, my cousin Ann just gave birth to Sophia (the little one) with Chloe the firstborn holding on.
